A Big Night for Women | Recap of the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards

Sunday was a big day for women at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. So, to take a quick detour from highlighting the menstrual activists as we have been for International Women’s Month, we thought it was a good time to celebrate the women that are absolutely dominating the music industry.

Women were typically in the majority in most categories including those for the general field, pop, country, and rock. One of the major highlights of the night was when Beyonce broke the record for Most Decorated Female Artist in history. She tied the record when Savage won for Best Rap Song and then later broke the record within the hour for Brown Skin Girl winning Best Music Video.

Another major moment of the night was when Mickey Guyton, the first Black female solo artist to be nominated in the country category, also became the first Black female artist to perform at the award show.

On top of that, all women won the general field categories. H.E.R.’s I Can’t Breathe for Best Song, Billie Eilish’s Everything I Wanted for Best Record, Megan Thee Stallion for Best New Artist, and Taylor Swift’s Folklore for Best Album, women really racked up all the major awards - and talking points - of the night.
